Put some ART under the Christmas tree

Give art as gift - Linda GermainOnly 8 days left until Christmas and you may consider giving ART as a gift. There are many places to shop for those last minute gifts. Etsy, Local art fairs and Craft sales. Even your favorite artists’ website.

Most artists will have pieces with a ranges of prices that includes, cards and reproductions all the way up to large scale originals.

I am pleased to offer to Haverhill Hillies the Holiday ornament that features the iconic Basiliere Bridge.

You can pick up one at the Haverhill Art Market, this Saturday, between 12 and 6 at 90 Washington St.

Also I am pleased to announce that I will have some of my latest monotype prints that feature the female figure. I will have both framed and unframed original pieces.

Art may even be a great choice for those Yankee Swap type of gatherings. Pick something that you love and hope that someone else will love it too.

Gift idea – Crop monotype prints & collage

Gift idea - crop and collage monotype prints - Linda Germain

If you are anything like me then you have piles of prints with potential. Here’s an idea for small gifts for the holidays:

  • Gather a stack of prints that you are willing to crop
  • Choose a collage substrate. It could be small panels, wooden blocks, heavy paper stock, foam core….
  • Make a cropping window the same size as your substrate (See upper left corner of picture above)
  • Hover over your prints with the cropping window to find a pleasing composition
  • Mark and cut down the print
  • Glue, tape or collage the print to the substrate
  • Enhance as desired, writing, stamping, collage
  • Sign and give as gift!

Crop Monotypes and Make gifts!

These tiny treasures are great little gifts for friends and family. They can have a little bit of your unique self in a corner of their home or work. They can be little reminders or bits of inspiration.

This is one way that I use prints that were less than perfect or were just warm up or clean up papers.

Stamping tools for Monotype Printing

stamping tools for monotype printing

Stamping tools can be found anywhere.

I have a whole 8 foot table dedicated to my stamping tools for monotype printmaking. I share a few of my favorites with you in the photo above.

  • Relief stamp of elastic bands
  • Caps and thread spools
  • Sprockets
  • Rubber bath stickies
  • Handmade stamper with ear buds
  • Block of wood with great grain
  • Kids wooden blocks
  • Wide combs
  • Cut glass

I am always noticing objects as potential mark making tools. These tools work especially well with the gelatin plate. Because the plate is malleable it can hold the delicate mark that is made in the ink. Then with mere hand pressure you transfer the impression to your print paper.

If you would like help and encouragement as you explore gelatin printmaking with the glycerin and gelatin plate, consider joining us in an online class.  Check out the current online printmaking classes.
