Gelatin Prints and some book forms

Today I went into Boston to the Athenaeum to see the Artists’ Books Exhibit. What a wonderful space to just be with books.  The exhibit show cases books from the Athenaeum’s collection.  Inspiring!  I came home and played with a single page book form.  I followed the instructions in Book + Art by Dorothy Simpson Krause.  I am going to exhibit several of my artist books at the Sage Art Gallery, in March.  I am excited about putting this show together.  Must Run!  Happy Printing.

animal totems Prep for kids class

I had some fun in the studio today.  I am teaching a class at Lynn Arts during school vacation week – Shapeshifting – native american art in conjunction with the current exhibit at PEM.  This project is going to be a totem pole of animal totems that are based on the birth dates of each child.  I wonder what my tribe will be like.  These animals are painted on recycled cereal boxes and then stacked.  So fun to Play.

Artist books and looking for Answers

box of my artist books

After a quick stop at the Wicked Big Cafe for a coffee with a shot of pumpkin, I was on my way to the Sage Art Gallery with this box of my books and I ran into a friend.  I started talking about my art, my business and my need to set some priorities.  She started flipping through my first book and told me to read it and then set my goals.  Funny how the answers are right before me in my own work.  Happy Art Making.

Gelatin Printing a double sided series today

gelatin printing

Today I finally got the gelatin out of the refrigerator and started playing with some prints.  I was using 9″ x 12″ drawing paper and printing on both sides.   I limited myself to blue, black and gold ink.  I had a couple of “stamping items and a couple of stencils.   I layered and layered and got  one or two prints that are kind of fun.  Happy Printing.

I started layering some square boxes yesterday with the intent of doing a few bird prints.  It is a challenge to print on a hard surface with another hard object.  I am used to printing on paper with any kind of found object that comes my way.  So I figured out that I could print with the hard object on to soft foam and then transfer the paint to the box from the foam.  That is how I made the black circle marks above.  Kind of an offset type process.  Happy Printing!
