a Perfect Day of Gelatin Printing…

We all left with a new interest in exploring the  gelatin monotype print.

Enjoy!

I added the following marks to the gelatin plate print-

  • scribbles with colored pencils
  • light and dark marks to enhance the contrast
  • pre inked the stencil to increase the dark marks
  • let the different color of inks mix on the brayer
  • see the pre-inking video here

A horse Of course – gelatin prints

horse gelatin print by linda germainFor the ICAD challenge, I made a few gelatin prints with my horse stencil.  I became aware of:

  • It takes a few prints to get warmed up
  • Often the best gelatin prints happen when I don’t think  too much
  • It’s only an index card so try it
  • I can make several gelatin prints very fast
  • A commitment gets me into the studio for more gelatin printing.

Join me – make gelatin prints

use my stencils, ink and papers.  Do some yoga printmaking – Check out the workshop schedule and find a date that works for you.

Abstract Landscape with a Gelatin Plate Print

abstract landscape gelatin plate print by linda germainToday, I did some quick playing with the gelatin plate and made a few vertical landscapes. I used the speedball inks, yellow, orange and turquoise.   Off course when I begin printing with expectations in my mind, that are never met.  But

Playing with gelatin plate print pays off

I finally let myself try whatever I was thinking.  so……..

  • stamped on marks
  • directly brayered marks on to the paper
  • printed on the back and the front of the page
  • tore up newsprint to make jagged stencils
  • let the ink get watery

Enjoy!
