So, I know everyone prints with ferns when they experiment with gelatin printing, but they do it because the results are awesome.   I used the Daniel Smith Water soluble block printing inks and thin tissue paper.  It will take a few days to dry and then I can collage the prints on to something.  Playing with photo editing options and going a bit crazy! Lightroom, photoshop, Elements, Organizer, Bridge, iPhoto, Aperture  So many choices.

Gelatin Printing after a long break

Well, I made some gelatin yesterday and played with it today.  I cracked the gelatin as I tried to get it out of the pan.  (go with the flow – linda) I decided to print on tissue paper and then I can collage the prints into some mixed media pieces that I am working on.  It did not take long before I realized why I love gelatin printing.  It’s all in the details!!!   I don’t know if this will make sense to you but – the print on the right was created by placing the screen print on the left on the gelatin plate.  And all with just hand pressure.

Priming and Prepping

I have found that surface preparation is giving me a way to get started.  I can get pulled in many directions and be overwhelmed by my to do list.  I found some peace as I primed some 7″ square boxes for my next series.  Just doing the work.  Hurricane Irene is moving in.  We had to board up one window in the shop and I am listening to the drip-drip of a couple of leaks.  I still have power.

More Scarves from Dharma to Dye

Yesterday I did a whole day of dyeing fabric with natural dyes such as marigolds, goldenrod, cochineal, and logwood.  Friends of mine are experienced in dyeing wool and were experimenting with dyeing fabric.         We used clamp resists, pole wrapping, elastics, knotting and twisting and came up this a wide range of results.

Drawing and Printing

Perfect summer day is what they are telling me on the radio today.  I must go enjoy it then.  I am adding some new drawings to my mixed media prints.  I am using the drawing fluid method to make a screen of simple flowers.  I had the idea to draw with an eyedropper.  We did this in the faces 101 class that I took with Carla Sonheim a couple of weeks ago.  Here’s some directions from Dharma trading on the drawing fluid method.  This face was done with ink and eyedropper and a toilet paper blot.  So fun and free.
