Today, I did some quick playing with the gelatin plate and made a few vertical landscapes. I used the speedball inks, yellow, orange and turquoise.   Off course when I begin printing with expectations in my mind, that are never met.  But

I finally let myself try whatever I was thinking.  so……..

• stamped on marks
• directly brayered marks on to the paper
• printed on the back and the front of the page
• tore up newsprint to make jagged stencils
• let the ink get watery

It is all in the details.  I love the details that you can get with the gelatin monotype print.  This print is on a dictionary page that I collaged on to the index card for the ICAD challenge.

Make Tiny Gelatin Plate Prints

Today I made a gelatin print with a twisted fern and a spoked wheel and the lovely richly pigmented Daniel Smith Water Soluble block printing inks.  My thoughts on this monotype print :

1. I like the richness of the dark blue ink
2. I like the twisted shape created by the less than perfect fern
3. I like the contrast of the “geometric” line and the organic fern
4. I think the uneven division of space works to keep this simple print interesting.
