On to the Fun stuff!
This 3 day class runs December 1, 2, and 3rd. However, we will continue to work together for a few weeks and you will have access to all the lessons for at least 6 months. And if you really want to have all the lessons for ever, then you can download the info to your computer for personal use for ever.
It is generally inspiring to work along with the other artists in the class. To do this you may want to look at the supply list and make sure that you have all the supplies needed for the projects.
I do try to use supplies that most folks have in their studio. But there are a couple of specific supplies that I highly recommend for this course:
- Speedball water based block printing ink – Starter kit or a few of your favorite colors, I like black, cyan, processes yellow, magenta, gold and orange and turquoise. small tubes will take you a long way.
- The homemade gelatin and glycerin plate. This class does not include the lessons on how to make the gelatin and glycerin plate. But you can get them for FREE HERE and make the plate before class starts.
I use and like the homemade gelatin and glycerin printing plate. I think it is more malleable and transfers the water based inks in the most unique way. I know the manufactured gel plates are convenient and popular. If you already have your special way of gelatin printing with a special combination of ink/paint, brayers and type of plate, then you can most likely use this supplies to learn this process. If you have questions about this please email linda@lindagermain.com
Minimum supplies that you will need for printing:
- 4” SOFT rubber brayers least one – But 2 – 4 of varying sizes would be more convenient
- Speedball water based block printing ink – Starter kit or a few of your favorite colors, I like black, cyan, processes yellow, magenta, gold and orange and turquoise. small tubes will take you a long way.
- Print paper – I use 90 lb drawing paper
- Plexi glass palette for ink and one for the gelatin plate (glass or flexible cutting mat good too)
- Spray bottle for water
- Rags to clean brayer
- scrap newspaper – lots
- If you want to make a small hand held gelatin plate for “spot printing”- then you will need one box of gelatin.
- your own photos
- free clip art sites like Pixaby
- Pinterest boards
- sketches of ridge lines
- TV and videos
FAQ’s
How is the content delivered?
Great question. Each lesson day you will receive an email with the link to the private classroom. There you will find written text and one or more videos for the day’s lesson. I believe that the best way for you to improve your skills is to draw and print a lot. So the videos are short and meant to inspire you to action.
Questions can be asked and answered in the classroom or on the private Facebook Group. The Facebook Group is a rich supportive resource that I suggest you become a part of, but it is not required. It is quite simple to be part of the group. You just need a personal profile and then I can add you to the group. There is no need to “friend” people.
What type of computer or online skills do I need to participate?
You will need high speed internet access so that you can stream videos. All group conversations will be on a private Facebook page. You do not have to join the Facebook group but it will contain valuable discussions and learning.
Does the class meet at a certain time?
After the daily videos and lessons are released, you will be able to access the information at any time that is convenient to you.
How much time is required each day?
Hmmm. Required is a strong word. You get out of it what you put into it.
So that said, nothing is ever required. My hope is that you will be able to use this course to commit extra time to your art practice – maybe 60 to 120 minutes a day depending on what we are doing.
How long will I have access to the materials?
You will be able to download all material so that you could access them for as long as you would like. The Monochromatic Mountains workshop course site will remain available to you for 6 months after the class ends. The private Facebook group could be active for as long as participants choose.
What happens after I register for the course?
Thank-You and Welcome!
Very shortly you will receive more information about gathering your supplies.
A day or two before the start day you will receive password and access to the class website, and facebook page. I look forward to working with you.
