This gelatin printmaking workshop is inspired by walks in the woods at all times of year.

We will create abstract trees and forests with:

  • torn paper stencils
  • textured paper collage
  • simplified drawing and stamping

With these techniques you will be able to create:

  • Birch tree grove
  • Series of coordinated prints
  • Long soft cover forest book
  • Add towering trees to existing print

  • gelatin and glycerin plate
  • water based block printing inks and
  • absorbent 90 lb drawing paper

General skills that we will develop include:

  • Creating a pleasing composition
  • Using a range of value to create interest
  • Developing a focus or “conversation”
  • Getting the most from your inks and tools
  • Drawing on your local forest for inspiration

These skills are transferable to other types of mixed media printmaking. This class is for anyone who would like to explore gelatin printmaking and making abstract tree scapes with simple tools.
