Goal for today

gelatin workshop

This is huge and why does the text sit right on the edge of the image and not  wrap.  I find typing in  WP very frustrating. It did it again.  I would like the text to wrap and it is not wrapping.  I need to go to Yoga and come back with fresh outlook.  So 3 times or more to get the image in.

  1. it is not what you see is what you get
  2. maybe I need to change themes
  3. I am not using the features that attracted me to the theme
  4. I really don’t like the blog post format with the author and stuff on the side
  5. but I want to make a decision and move forward
  6. I am going crazy

So what can I learn from this process?

Printmaking Inspiration at the Gym

gelatin print in 2 layers

I was recently inspired by the tv at the gym.  I was walking on the tread mill and watching the tv without audio.  I forgot my earbuds.  I realized that I could learn a lot about composition, division of space, camera angles and the like for this soundless video.

This is just another example of how learning, inspiration and often the answers are right there if we can open our eyes, be still and let it in.  Hmmm?

This idea of seeing and making art was confirmed yesterday when I went to listen to Barbara Moody talk about finding the artist’s voice.  Early in her presentation she noted how we, artists can walk down the same street and see very different inspirations, from shape, texture, line, color and subject matter.

What is your inspiration? What do you see?

Gelatin jigglers anyone?

Just teasing you.  I would not be eating my gelatin squares.  But it  is fun to cut the big slab of gelatin up at the end of a workshop and put it in the freezer for the next class. A couple of tips for freezing the gelatin for reuse later.

  1. Cut it into manageable squares – easier to thaw later
  2. Use a container that you can put in the microwave
  3. Freeze just one gelatin plate in each container.
One time I put the cut up squares of a a few slabs of gelatin into one big container and then I had trouble trying to thaw out the big frozen chunk of gelatin.
I have a couple of workshops planned for the next month or so.  Check the date and sign up for a gelatin printmaking workshop.
Happy printing!

Stencils for Gelatin Printing

cut some stencils

These stencils caught my eye during the recent gelatin printmaking class.   I like to use figures in my prints and the way these ladies were draped over the back of this chair, just grabbed my attention.

I think they are simply photocopies  on regular paper or on card stock.  They look like they have a coat of mat medium on them and are drying in between coats.

The black and white one has great negative space. …
