Use What YOU Have – for life and gelatin prints

I like to create with this motto in mind – to use what I have. Instead of looking outside myself for the answers, tools or ideas, I slow down and trust that the answer is within me or very close by. So as I get ready for the next holiday sale, I am going to use the prints and projects that I already have. Breathe and enjoy this holiday season.

Time Flies – no gelatin printing lately

It has been a while since I have been here. And the holidays are sneaking up too. I hooked up with the local NanoWriMo group around the 15th of November and got tons of support to write my book. November is national novel writers month and the goal is to write 50,000 words in November. Well I was 2 weeks late and got to 27,500 words. I am still motivated and inspired to keep going.

Saying the goal out loud and committing to others means progress for me.

Last week, I went to a great financial training session with Esther Robinson of ArtHome.org. I am lucky to be participating in the assets for artist program. So I have been doing some big picture planning.

And to challenge myself into improving my health I have recently, cut from my diet, eggs, soy, gluten, corn, sugar, dairy and corn. Wow! I do feel better already.

Gelatin Printing Cards – reindeer and doilies

I was playing with the gift of doilies that I got from Terri Stegmiller. I first experimented with what kind of marks I could get from the doily. They are nice and sturdy. I made a pile of prints and cropped a few into some cards.

Three ways to get an impression with the doily:

gently press the doily into the inked plate – try not to wiggle it. This gives you a dark field print.
ink the doily and then lay it on the clean plate and gently press. This gives you a light field impression
lay the doily on the inked plate, do a newsprint pick up, remove the doily and then print. This gives you a gray field print.

I like the mark that is created when I ink the doily by laying it in the thin layer of ink on the gelatin plate, rather than inking the doily with the brayer. It creates a nice thin line. Remember to use the gelatin and it’s malleability to transfer ink and impressions when ever possible.

Generosity and Gratitude between artists

Yesterday I received the gift of the two fabulous doilies from Terri Stegmiller. She read about my search and wanted to share some extras that she had found. Wow what a generous offer. I look forward to playing with them. They are sturdy and have good size holes, just what I like in a stencil of this sort. She has inspired me to be generous in some way. So I am keeping my mind open to situations for giving.
