Recycled Tile for stamping Gelatin monotypes

Recycled tile sample as printmaking tool to be used to lift off and apply ink WE have a great recycling store near by, called Extras for Creative Reuse. It is a membership type place and when you visit you can take pound and pounds and bags of stuff! I find lots of interesting “printmaking tools”.

Tile sample as printmaking tool

This tile sample works great to make marks in the thin layer of ink on the gelatin and glycerin printing plate. Then when the ink builds up on the “tool”, I print the ink back on to a clean area of the plate and get a very detailed impression with mere hand pressure.

If you would like to explore tool gathering and monotype printmaking on the gelatin plate, then join us in an online printmaking workshop.

Printmaking tools from the Bathroom

Rubber flower to make marks on the gelatin printing plateI alway check out rubber things at the local shop. Rubber is spongey and can make an interesting mark in the thin layer of ink on the gelatin and glycerin printing plate.

Lift off ink with rubber bath pad

Non skid bath mats and pads come in lots of patterns and shape. I use them to lift off and then apply a thin layer of ink to the printing plate.

Cardboard as a relief stamp

simple circles cut into corrugated cardboard to make stamping tool - Linda Germain teacher

I used a circle cutter to cut the first layer of this piece of corrugated cardboard. I love cardboard as a mark making tool. You could use a razor blade or exact knife to do the same and cut whatever shape you would like.

Elastics to make a relief plate

stamping tool made with elastic - Linda Germain

Elastics can be a great line element. I like the circular nature of the elastics as well.

I used carpet tape to stick the elastic on to the foam plate. Carpet tape is great because there is not waiting. You can start using the there relief plate right away.

Anything that is fast and easy is a good tool in my printmaking process.
