Trim old Gelatin Plate for Printing

I was ready to toss my gelatin plate today, but I gave it a little more life.  I took a razor blade to the edge and got rid of the hard edge. I used a square to make the corners square.  But with gelatin, I try not to worry about the funky edges.   The razor blade cuts through nice and easily.  Sometimes it cuts more smoothly when an up and down motion is used. Happy Printing!

  1. Yesterday, I trimmed up MY gelatin plate. I cut it with a pocket knife. I have been using it for over a month and it has stayed usable. I wrap it in plastic wrap and then put it in the fridge in a zip lock bag. It is still usable after a print session yesterday. I had made the plate in a pie pan and I didn’t really like that round shape. It got tiresome. So I squared it off, but left an arch at the top. I used the shapes I cut off to print with.
